Indeed in the Eastern Cuban province of Guantánamo it appears one of those places under the original name of Our Lady of Asuncio'n de Baracoa, founded between 1511 and 1512 by the Advanced Diego Vela'zquez, and who got to be in addition the first capital and first bishopric to ínsula. Together with the strong load of history that locks up the city, in its character of villa prioritized of the island, it has as particular seal the good natured character of its settlers and the beauty of a large city surrounded by mountains, rivers and abundant vegetation. The own name of the locality, Baracoa, has its origin in a native word that means "presence of sea", in frank reference of its original settlers to a marine by all sides, very contrastante atmosphere presence with mountains and the fluvial currents. In that place, turned the first bishopric of Cuba, thanks to one bula emitted by Pope Leon X, the Houses celebrated the first mass before the cross of Santa Parra. At the mentioned cross until they got to attribute the gift to him to make miracles, and until from Spain they got to request pieces of the wood of the divine relic, thus was diminishing its size. In order to avoid that it continued decreasing and a day it disappeared, the religious institutions put in agreement with the priest parish priest and plated in silver the ends de la Cruz. At the present time one is in one of the altars of the Parochial Church. There is the oldest religious monument, that is, the oldest relic of the Christianity in Cuba. |
