Province located to the East of the central region of Cuba. It has an extension of 15 584.72 km2 and one considered population of 771 931 inhabitants (1996). First place between the provinces of the country by its extension and sixth by its population.

In this region the plains abound, but everything is not plains in the camagüeyano territory: the mountain range of Cubitas is remarkable, where a cave located in the hill of Tuabaquey, the highest elevation of this province, is conserved like testimony of which outside refuge of wild slaves, but, not only by their historical value these caverns of the mountain range of Cubitas stand out, are considered most beautiful and great of Cuba.

The igneous and metamórficas rock existence next to the city of Camagüey, has given rise to the cromita formation, a valuable strategic mineral whose abundance is so that it can constitute the most important Cuban deposit.

The coralline coast that borders by the north to Camagüey lets see, slightly raised on the level of the sea, the hundreds of keys and islets of the archipelago Gardens of the King. The well-known islet as Roman Key sample heights of relative importance like the Chair indicating us that its origin not must only to the growth of chorales, but to foldings of the limestone crust of the region.

To the north of the municipality Emerald they have been discovered fossil of ammonites, that they denote a mesozoica age.
