During the War of the Ten Years the patriotic cienfuegueros were gotten up massively, from 1869, to the Army of liberation and developed numerous actions in that territory.

In the course of the call Very small War (1879-1880) in the territory one rose, by the colonial forces, a system of military fortifications denominated trail, that extended by the towns of Santo Domingo, Cruces and Ranchuelo, which was reused later in the War of Independence (1895-1898).
