The Republic of Cuba is a collection of islands in the Caribbean Sea. The official language is Spanish. Cuba belonged to Spain until it was turned over to the Unites States in 1898 after the Spanish-American War.

• Independence Day, May 20. Anniversary of the transfer of power from Spain in 1902.
• Beginning of Independence Wars Day. Commemorates Fidel Castro's guerrilla wars in the 1950s.
• Revolution Day, July 26. Commemorates Fidel Castro's opposition to the Batista military dictatorship on this day in 1953.
• Liberation Day, January 1. Commorates the revolution of 1959 led by Fidel Castro which ousted dictator Fulgencio Batista.
