City of HolguinThe province of Holguín has a territorial extension of 9 300.46 km² and is populated by more with a million inhabitants, more of 50% of which it is based in urban zones. Its capital, call also the City of the Parks, was founded on 1720 and has a strong Hispanic influence. The rectum drawn up of its streets was a novel element for its time and allowed to connect - by means of its two main arteries, the streets Maceo and Libertad - a remarkable number of parks and seats, that still today conserve their prestancia of long ago. Throughout more than 40 km of coasts with exceptional characteristics, the North coast of Holguín reserves to the visitor 41 beaches, between which Guardalavaca and Playa Emerald have gained a deserved space in the preference of the foreign visitors. Fishing beach is prodigal in zones of submarine landscape and takes privileged places to observe interesting natural elements; Don Lino Integra in perfect harmony the free spaces, the architecture and the surroundings, while White Beach is closely together of Bariay Key, the site where admiral Cristóbal stepped on Cuban earth Columbus, in its first trip to the New World. To the northeast of Holguín Key Saetía, an authentic equipped natural monument with 12 totally virgin beaches is located; while, the southwest of the city, the National Park the Mensura, in Pine groves of Mayarí, shows to an impressive resistance between the tropical mountain vegetation and dense forests of pines. The archaeological capital of Cuba, Banes; the White call Villa of Gibara and the own capital city, Holguín, are locations that heighten the tourist values of a region that has been preserving the enchantments that as much astonishment and admiration caused, for more than half millenium, to the Great Admiral of the Sea Oceana. Clear expression of the strong existing Hispanic influence in the holguinero territory constitutes one of festejos rooted his more: the Romerías of May, that annually takes place between days 3 and 4 of May and consists of a peregrination until the Hill de la Cruz, who finalizes with animated festejo popular and the izaje of a flag with the symbol of the city: Hacha de Holguín. |
