Along with the adjacent Holguín forms what it is known as "the East". Probably the most depressed of Cuba and with an economy eminently agriculturist (sugar cane) and cattle dealer, also it has some gold deposit. Although it is not very important, for me has a very special place the town of Jobabo, to some thirty kilometers to the southwest of the capital, surrounded by fields of sugar cane and in which one of few forests of thecas of the country exists. To about 20 kms to the south of Jobabo, in the coast, is the cocodrilera of Sabalo, a biological station of restricted access to investigators and that occupies a surface that surpasses the 2000 hectares of lagoons in which they live in freedom thousands of crocodiles, is most important of Cuba and can that of the American continent. A pair of kilometers before arriving at this one, by winding earth tracks, is a dependent deposit of crocodiles of the previous one in which they have about 300 animals for his study. To half of way between Jobabo and the cocodrilera is the desert where the Dry Wood battle was developed, first important defeat on the Spanish troops.

In the north of the province they are the Covarrubias beaches, the Llanita and the Horseshoe. First already exploded at least facing the international tourism and with exceptional conditions.
