More western province of the Eastern region of Cuba that limits the north with Camagüey and the Atlantic Ocean; to the east with Holguín; to the south with Granma and the gulf of Guacanayabo and to the west with Camagüey.

It has a territorial extension of 6 587.8 km2 and one population of 516 795 inhabitants (1996) distributed in eight municipalities. Their area and population respectively place it in ninth and tenth place between the other provinces of the country.

In their landscape the plains predominate. Among them they appear the plain of the North of Camagüey-Las Tunas, where are the hills of Caisimú (peak altitude 122m), Dumañuecos (peak altitude 129 ms); towards the central zone the plains of the Center of Camagüey-Las Tunas, where they appear the elevations witnesses Green hill (peak altitude 188 ms) and Jengibre hill (peak altitude 140 ms); to the southwest the plain of the South of Camagüey-Las Tunas and to the Southeastern the plain of the cautious one, low zone with some marshy areas.

The region counts on deposits of kaolin and salt, and their more important rivers are: Short, Jobabo, Seville, and the Tana.

Its economy is characterized by a predominance of the sugar, mining and sideromecánica industry.
