More western province of Cuba. It limits the north with the gulf of Mexico, the east with Havana, the south with the Caribbean Sea and the gulf of Batabanó, and the west with the channel of Yucatán.Tiene a 904.01 area of 10 km2 and one population of 720 271 inhabitants (1996). Between the other provinces of the country it occupies the third place by his extension and seventh by his population. To the relief of this province it characterizes the mountain range of Guaniguanico, around which the plains of the North and the South of Pinar del Rio are located, respectively, and the plain of Guanahacabibes to suroeste.Dicha mountain range is divided in two formation mountainous different: the mountain range of the Rosary with its culminating point of 692m of height the Bread of Guajaibón and the Mountain range of the Organs. In this last one a great variety of natural accidents exists, between which the wooded hills, the great cavern of Santo Tomás and the intramontanos valleys like the one of Viñales stand out, famous by its impressive natural beauty. The rivers of this region are of little length and of great volume and most important they end at the South coast as they are the Cuyaguateje, the Depth and the San Diego. It exists a great number of lagoons and dams. In agriculture the culture of the tobacco stands out, that by his recognized world-wide quality constitutes one of the main exportable lines of the country; and in the industry, the fishing of platform and the aserríos they play an important role.
