Villa Clara HistoryFounded the 15 of Julio of 1689 by settlers of the coastal region of San Juan of the Remedies that fled from the constant attacks of privateers and pirates, it comes to occupy the center of the island, which also was worth the name to him of Cubanacán. The capital city Santa Clara reached in 1867 the condition of city. In century XIX, when most of the talents of the western part of Cuba they were equipped with steam engines and they used themselves the railway transport, the landowners of the central region of Cuba, with less economic resources, confronted great difficulties to technify their talents, for that reason the Clear region of Villa saw diminish its possibilities of development. During the War of the Ten Years, the villareños battled without truce nor rest, so that when signing itself the glorious Pact of the Sanjón continued fighting a time the more and contributed with their attitude to the energetic Protest of Baraguá. Consequently, in 1895 the villareños demonstrated to be one of the most heroic forces of the war: Santa Clara, Remedios and Camajuaní, contributed from the divided strong beginning of this war of rebels who soon increased and they were multiplied. There they stood out Leoncio Vidal and Dark brown Juan Zayas among other brave ones. In the Neocolonial Republic, Clear Villa had an important paper in the working fights, mainly in favor of the sugar Differential. In the revolutionary fight that preceded to the triumph of the revolution in 1959 many were their martyrs, among them : Julio Pine Machado, Agustín Go'mez Lubián, Osvaldo Herrera and other young students. The invasion made by Ernesto "Ché" Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos reached remarkable victories. During the battle of Santa Clara intense combats got rid from day 29 of December of 1958. A group of one hundred men attacked the soldiers intrenched in hills of Capiro; the captain Robert Rodriguez "the Vaquerito"avanzó on the police station; other groups were on the Jail, the Hearing and towards the Great Hotel where was the enemy. The capture of the armored train had great meaning because the arsenal of the rebellious army enriched. The regiment number three of Santa Clara surrendered the 1 of January of 1959 after Ché commander Guevara requested his unconditional surrender. |
